Patrick Swayze dies

Even though many of us knew this was coming, to actually have the moment arrive still brings a sense of great loss.

Patrick Swayze died today at age 57 after a twenty month battle with pancreatic cancer. He will always best be associated with "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost", as well as the future young star filled vehicle "The Outsiders", the Keanu Reeves co-starring caper "Point Break", and the cult film "Road House". He even shook it up and danced along side Chris Farley in a now classic Saturday Night Live skit featuring two dancers trying out to become Chipendales.

Interestingly, his father also died at age 57, although from a heart attack in 1982. he also studied dance and ballet extensively before focusing more on acting.

Yup, pretty sad. I loved that he kept working on his TV series "The Beast" and that the producers kept making the show (even though it didn't get renewed). He never gave up or gave in to the illness.

BTW, as hokey as it was, I loved "Roadhouse" - C'mon... Sam Elliot, Ben Gazzara, Kevin Tighe?! Awesome 80's ass kicking!

The funny thing is I've never seen "Road House"! It just never appealed to me. I've seen "Dirty Dancing" once all the way through just out of curiosity, but probably my favorite Patrick Swayze movie would have to be "Ghost".

And of course, he's great in "The Outsiders", "Red Dawn", and "Point Break"!
